Critics, including Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp, have accused Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour government of losing control over the nation's borders.

The Labour government's strategy focuses on dismantling smuggling operations rather than implementing controversial deportation plans, such as the previous administration's proposal to send migrants to Rwanda. Efforts have been made to enhance intelligence sharing and enforcement in northern France, alongside the introduction of stricter immigration legislation. For instance, Huntington Beach, California, was listed despite its active opposition to the state's sanctuary laws. Similarly, Shawano County, Wisconsin, which had declared itself a "Second Amendment Sanctuary County" unrelated to immigration, was mistakenly included.

Despite the list's removal, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that it remains operational internally. The National Sheriffs' Association criticized DHS for failing to clarify the list’s compilation process and not providing an objection mechanism. Sheriffs from several states and city officials have contested their inclusion and are requesting removal. The controversy highlights ongoing disputes over immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, which has threatened funding cuts and legal action against jurisdictions that fail to comply with its policies.

In contrast, Scottish National Party (SNP) supporters remain the most pro-immigration, with only 32% endorsing the stricter policies.

These programs, initiated during the Biden administration, provided temporary relief to individuals fleeing crises in their home countries. The Court's decision enables the administration to proceed with deportations, although legal challenges concerning due process rights are ongoing.

On May 30, Senator Paul Scarr, the newly appointed opposition immigration spokesman in Australia, reaffirmed the Coalition's commitment to reducing the country's immigration intake. While not fully endorsing a specific proposal to cut net overseas migration by 100,000, Scarr emphasized the need for a measured reduction to address concerns over housing shortages and infrastructure strain.

Scarr also highlighted the importance of maintaining respectful and empathetic dialogue with Australia's multicultural communities. He argued that the Coalition’s stance is not anti-migrant, but instead aims to ensure sustainable growth and effective resource management.
